Recent drain repair and installation works carried out.
Drain repairs at a house in Maidenhead - Novemeber 2024
Our engineers removed 5.5 metres of block paving and excavated a trench from the manhole to the boundary to expose existing and remove existing pipework.
They then installed 5.5 metres of 110mm PVC pipework and surrounded it with 10mm gravel.
Next, they back-filled and compacted the trench and reinstated the block paved area, removing all rubbish from site leaving areas worked clean and tidy.
Roots in drain pipework at a house in Winnersh
The gallery below details works recently carried out in an office carpark in Winnersh where there was a large presence of tree roots in drain pipe of the foul line which had been causing regular and severe blockages.
The block-paving in the carpark area was carefully removed so that the blocks could be re-laid when the drain pipe repairs had been completed.
A trench was excavated by hand to reveal the existing pipework. This revealed the presence also of a mains water line running alongside the drain pipework.
The existing pipework was broken into to locate issues and the presence of roots that had been previously detected by a CCTC camera survey. Root intrusion was evident along the line with a very large root ball present in one of the laterals.
The existing pipework was removed and replaced with 110mm PVC pipework. When fully installed and the direction of flow checked and confirmed, the pipework was surrounded in 10mm gravel.
The trench was then back-filled and compacted and prepared for the re-laying of the block paving.
After everything had been reinstated, the area worked was then left clean and tidy with all rubbish removed from site.
Roots in drain at residential property in Bramley
We attended an emergency call out to the property because the garden, patio and alleys had been heavily waterlogged following a recent storm. Our engineers found that there was very little water flowing from the storm drain indicating there was a blockage
We attempted to High Pressure Jet the stormline to clear any blockage but this was not successful.
Due to lack of an access point we had to excavate down to the existing pipework to be able to locate the issue.
Upon inspection of the existing pipework it could be seen that the pipework was leaking heavily. Roots were present both surrounding the pipework and within the pipework and a large root-ball was present in the line.
In total, we replaced 4 metres of affected pipework.
Toilets pipework replacement at a cafe in Finchampstead
The toilets at a local cafe were constantly blocking. We conducted a survey and found there were a few faults with the way the existing pipework had been connected.
The first task was to partially dismantle the toilet cubicles and remove access panels so that the existing pipework could be revealed.
Externally, the ground was excavated to expose the existing pipework. We cut out and removed a 90 degree bend and 2 metres of pipework. We then installed 1x new manhole and 1 metre of pipework each side of the manhole. All pipework was surrounded with a protective layer of 10mm gravel.
We then cut-out and replaced the pipework at the back of the toilets and installed a new rodding access, 2 metres of pipework, a 90 degree bend and T-piece.
The toilet cubicles and toilets were reinstated along with all areas worked.
Why Do Drains Fail?
Sometimes the cause of a blockage can be due to a major failure in the drain system such as a collapsed drain. In this instance there is really no choice other than to carry out repairs or install entire sections. In most cases we will be able to reveal the cause and location of the problem by using our CCTV survey cameras. A CCTV survey alone though can’t always highlight the extent of a problem, as issues could be present well beyond the initial problem encountered.
When we have located the first sign of trouble, if it is not a manhole, we will excavate to reveal the existing pipework and break into it. We will then be able to survey the pipe onwards to check for any issues further down the line. Hopefully the damaged section of pipe is localised to just the area identified allowing us to remove the damaged section quickly and install new pipework and connections.
It maybe that the cause of the problem isn’t a drain that has collapsed but one that has been infiltrated by roots at a manhole, a join in the pipe or by forcing its way in by cracking the pipework. Where roots have forced themselves into the system and caused damage some form of repair to the drain system is inevitable.
There are often warning signs of an impending problem in advance of a drain failing. Signs of a major failure in your drainage system could be bad smells, blockages and sewage backups that can’t be shifted, damp patches or overflowing manholes. Leaking or blocked drains can cause major problems for your home or business and are best addressed at the first sign of trouble rather than when catastrophe strikes to minimise damage, disruption and inconvenience.
Depending on the cause of the drain failure, we are able to offer a range of solutions including a lining that removes the need to excavate the drain.
